We’re friends first and brewers second, and as mates we share a key philosophy of simple foundations between us:

It doesn’t matter where you end up, it only matters if you had a good time getting there. When it comes to the pursuit of happiness, it really is about the journey, and who you’re taking it with. All we have in life are the experiences we share and the memories we make together.

We don’t believe in binge drinking or bravado. We believe that good beer is the perfect reason to enhance human connection.

We started The Welder’s Dog to provide experiences built on foundations of flavour, atmosphere and connection that increase the happiness and wellbeing of everyone around us. And it works – some boffins at Oxford even did a study to prove it… People who hang out, chill and enjoy a few brews with mates are happier people. It’s science.

*An actual survey by Oxford University found that drinking with friends seems to improve overall well being. The study suggests that people who get together regularly at their local were found to be happier. They were more satisfied with their lives.

At the core of everything we do is a love of our local community, and a desire to see everyone around us smiling.

It’s not just about the beer. It’s about championing our local producers, about giving our patrons a place to discover and enjoy their produce, it’s about bringing new exciting events to our region, and about making the tastiest bloody beer you’ve ever had – because that’s what we love.

Our mission is for people to live in the present much like the proverbial ‘welder’s dog’, who is blind but happy and fulfilled by his owner’s companionship. The dog lives fully in each moment, finding joy in each experience that he’s gifted. Every day is a fresh start, and every experience by his owner’s side brings its own happiness.

Paddock to Pint – The journey of our Barley

The Welder’s Dog Brewery in Armidale uses locally sourced barley for our delicious craft beers. Our barley supplier is located at ‘Auburn’ – a property 24km North West of Wee Waa, NSW, Australia (as the crow flies). They are a 100% Australian, family owned and operated barley farm producing premium quality, single origin, single variety and single harvest malt barley.

PURE BARLEY, STRAIGHT FROM THE FIELD

The main focus of Auburn is producing super pure lines of the highest quality malt barley varieties available. They aim to maintain the varietal purity of each barley line – from planting, through to harvest, and into segregated storage.

Auburn fully understands the goals of The Welder’s Dog Brewery in producing high-quality, unique craft beers and work tirelessly to provide us full traceability of the freshest, purest, high quality malt barley, all the way back to the farm and field. This provides us with the ability to exploit the unique varietal characteristics of different malt barley varieties sourced from a single origin and harvest. The direct line of communication we maintain with our producers is integral to operations and affords us great flexibility in tailoring production to meet our brewery’s needs and, ultimately, our customer’s preferences.
